F1 Neuron EV - The Future of Smartmeters and Smartscopes is coming

What is the F1 Neuron? What is it supposed to be? What will it be?

Honestly, at this point in the development I can tell you what the F1 is supposed to be, but since we are constantly getting feedback from you, our customers, the market, and field testing there is no final stamp of approval on the final “model”. You can say we are currently working with Mark I and we like to do public releases around MARK III or higher. The F1 is something that is more than just some dev’s pipe dream or even cooked up by me or someone else on the team for no reason. The F1 is an answer to a few things that have been happening both in the marketplace and the industry. Before jumping into those however, here is the current aim and description of the F1 Neuron:

The Neuron F1 is an EV safe Smartmeter & Smartscope that gives you smart, fast, accurate and trusted high-speed measurements and answers about what you are testing and what to do next. Integration to THE HUB through your smart phone, tablet, scan tool or windows computer will let you finally be free from the bay and the cart. With the dedicated system tests, known good comparison data and feedback you will be able to take the guesswork out of diagnostics and the tool automatically set itself up for you specific to each test. Just put the F1 on the circuit, select the correct test and follow the instructions on screen! With waveform viewing, glitch capture and triggers you can quickly and accurately find waveforms, problems and signals on High Voltage, Standard and computer circuits. With the quick glance status panel, the F1 will give you operating status and quick information about the unit and circuit. With all the capabilities and smart tests you need today and in the future, built-in training videos and courses you too can join the winners circle. Now with that out of the way let’s talk a little bit more about the what the F1 is supposed to do. As mentioned above, this can still change, but for the most part this is the basic core of F1 (unless we start to see massive datasets trending in a much different direction) we will be:

* Cat III 1000V CAT IV 600V Hybrid Safe safety ratings for testing high power systems

* Built in Smart tests with known good feedback via The Hub for quick and confident diagnosis

* Dedicated Training built in to show you how to use the tool and increase your skills

* Fast Waveform and Glitch Capture for clear signal review and analysis

* Trigger Presets, Auto ranging and Auto Signal Acquisition for fast setup and taking guess work out of testing

* Use multiple units together with Multichannel Support via THE HUB to add channels as you need them

* 10 Meg-Ohm internal impedance for Computer Safe testing

* On/Off Button for long life storage and no auto shut off

* E-Paper Screen for power saving, quick glance status, simple measurements data from the circuit without THE HUB

* Firmware updatable over the air to ensure you stay up to date with the latest functionality and capabilities

In this posting I will start to cover why we are making these choices; however I will go more in depth to each feature as we move forward in time and as things get updated.

Cat III 1000V CAT IV 600V Hybrid Safe

Cat III 1000V and CAT IV 600V are generally accepted hybrid safe safety ratings for testing high power systems. This is because these safety ratings can handle a “surge voltage” or transient from these level of power systems including a lightning strike to the system while connected with out causing damage to the user.

Built-in Smart tests with known good feedback via The Hub

Built in Smart tests with known good feedback via THE HUB for quick and confident diagnosis enables you to quickly access the internal database of components and systems and either setup the F1 to test and compare that system or component to a known good waveform/reading OR optimally set up the tool to test that component or system and provide you a general guidance for what you are looking for. With known good data, videos and written instructions you will be able to take the guesswork out of how to test and what to test for and in some cases be provided next step suggestions based on the readings.

Dedicated Training built in to help you succeed

Dedicated Training built in to show you how to use the tool and increase your skills is just part of what you will find the in THE HUB. With dedicated tool training you will become proficient in how to use your tool, but nothing is a substitute for hands on testing and knowledge. Inside the Curiosity Academy and Curien system you will be empowered with educational courses on how to use your tools, automotive systems and concepts trainings, advanced professional continuing education, side by side video and demo board training (yes you can get the demo board) and one on one tool training with a Curien team member to walk through things with you. You might even find a mentor in our community to connect with.

Fast Waveform capture and glitch capture & Auto setup / Triggers

Fast Waveform and Glitch Capture for clear signal review and analysis is meant to give you a clear picture of what is happening electrically with your circuit voltage overtime. This will show you whether or not a component or system is behaving the way it should and whether or not there are intermittent or consistent problems. With the auto setup, the tool sets itself up optimally for each tests or component but will still let you change the settings to fine tune so you can control what you are looking for. Preprogrammed triggers and tests will take the guesswork out of how to diagnose what you are working on.

Multichannel support with The Hub

Use multiple units together with Multichannel Support via THE HUB for more information at once about a circuit or to see multiple circuits interact. Just like a 2, 3 or 4 channel scope can show you correlations between circuits or more information about one circuit (Volts, Amps, Etc…) multichannel support gives you this capabilities without breaking the bank. Add channels to your setup as you progress and need them!

Computer Safe testing | On/Off Button | Screen and Firmware

10 Meg-Ohm internal impedance for computer safe testing gives you confidence in how you are testing. Without a 10 Meg-Ohm impedance on your testing equipment you run the risk of allowing current to flow when it shouldn’t and let the factory smoke out. An On/Off button lets you control when the unit stops sampling, meaning no auto-shut off! By having a quick status screen the F1 lets you know it’s current state and also provides quick glance information about the circuit you are testing. Having the ability to do firmware updates over the air will ensure that your unit will stay up to date and the most capable at all times.

As we weigh in on these topics and thoughts we ask what you think and would like to see regarding this type of functionality. Whether via a comment below or a direct message let us know what you think!

As we move forward with continued development and testing, we will release new updates on the F1 Neuron, anticipated specifications, features and software.
